April 2006 Fishing Report                                      posted 9th April 2006

What a good start to April...we finally managed to get out fishing again! It has been a long 2 months with the weather playing havoc with all of the charter boats up and down our coastline. On the odd occasion that boats have got out, they have managed to find skate and codling up to 5lb which is a good sign.

Our first trip out in the last couple of months was Sunday 9th April and was a great success! Kevin Smith landed a specimen, fish of a lifetime, 23lb Blond Ray. Kevin said to me that he had travelled to Jersey a few years ago in order to catch a blond ray and managed to catch a specimen one on his own doorstep! We photographed, weighed the fish and then, as with all Blond Rays caught, released it.  The fish was caught using a new FOX Sea 15-30lb Multi-Tip rod with 18lb FOX Sea Blue-Steel line on a squid cocktail!

Fishing was steady throughout the day with skate coming into the boat up to the 8lb mark. As usual we were plagued with dogfish, there was also the odd whiting and pouting. The water is starting to clear which is a good sign as we will soon be chasing our 'spiny friends' the bass which we are all looking forward to. The highlight today though was definitely was this lovely blond ray:
